Reading List
No single text is perfect for this module. Your Year 1 text, Young and Freedman, has some relevant material but doesn't go far enough. Most others contain more than is needed, though that need not be a bad thing.
The list below is similar to the Y1 Intro to PP list, though with slighty different emphases.
General particle physics texts
- Nuclear and Particle Physics, B.R.Martin, Wiley, ISBN 0-470-02532-8 (2006). Includes both Nuclear and Particle Physics, so a good resource for our purposes.
- Particle Physics, B.R.Martin and G.Shaw, Wiley, ISBN0-471-92359-1 (1992). There are three editions available (1992, 2003, 2011), all include material which is referred to in the course.
- The ideas of particle physics :an introduction for scientists (2nd Ed.), G.D. Coughlan and J.E. Dodd, Cambridge University Press, ISBN 0521385067(1991)
- Introduction to high energy physics, D.H. Perkins, Addison-Wesley (2nd and 3rd ed.), Cambridge University Press (4th ed.). There are many copies of this book between 2nd and 4th edition in the library. Emphasis on 'historical' physics/methods.
- Elements of Nuclear Physics, W.E. Burcham, Longman, ISBN 0-582-46027-1 (1985). There is a more recent book by Burcham and Jobes which may also be useful.
