Reading List

These are a few texts on neutrino physics which you may find helpful. There is a wide range of levels between the texts and some are more advanced reference texts.

Neutrino specific texts

  • Neutrino Physics (2nd edition), K. Winter (Ed.) , Cambridge University Press, ISBN 0-521-65003-8 (2000)
  • The Elusive Neutrino, N. Solomey, Scientific American Library, ISBN 0-7167-5080-5 (1997)
  • Spaceship Neutrino, C. Sutton , Cambridge University Press, ISBN 0-521-36404-4 (1992)
  • Physics of Neutrinos and Applications to Astrophysics, M. Fukugita and T. Yanagida , Springer-Verlag, ISBN 3-540-43800-9 (2003)
  • Massive neutrinos in physics and astrophysics, R.N. Mohapatra and P.B. Pal , World Scientific, ISBN 981-02-0435-3 (1991)

  • The Neutrino, J.S. Allen, Princeton University Press (1958)

General particle physics texts

  • Introduction to high energy physics, D.H. Perkins, Addison-Wesley (2nd and 3rd ed.), Cambridge University Press (4th ed.). There are many copies of this book between 2nd and 4th edition in the library. Emphasis on 'historical' physics/methods.
  • The ideas of particle physics :an introduction for scientists (2nd Ed.), G.D. Coughlan and J.E. Dodd, Cambridge University Press, ISBN 0521385067(1991)
  • Quarks and Leptons: An Introductory Course in Modern Particle Physics, F. Halzen and A.D. Martin, Wiley and Sons, ISBN 0-471-88741-2 (1984). Difficult to get hold of and more advanced than required for our course.
  • Elements of Nuclear Physics, W.E. Burcham, Longman, ISBN 0-582-46027-1 (1985). There is a more recent book by Burcham and Jobes which may also be useful.
  • Nuclear and Particle Physics, B.R.Martin, Wiley, ISBN 0-470-02532-8 (2006).
