Fabric Management

A summary of the Birmingham Grid Fabric Management.

Introduction

Birmingham is a relatively small site, so it is very tempting to try and install and maintain grid nodes manually. This has and will continue to lead to difficulties synchronising the system. A number of fabric management systems were reviewed and it was decided that Birmingham would use cfengine. This won't do everything other systems will (Quattor will install the OS for example), but it has a much, much better manual!
