Future developments

ACE is, to a large extent, a user-led project. You can use the Contact Us form to bring to our notice any potential features that may be useful to you. Obviously, there is no guarantee that a feature request can or will be implemented.

The following are several features in the pipeline for ACE (most of which have been requested by users).
  1. Multi-version folder support i.e. tags
ACE was released with support for single version COOL folders only. As a general-use COOL editor, this is not acceptable. [ACE-00-02-00-beta]

  2. Upgrade COOL database connection string format
This is not so certain at the moment as COOL may not be supporting the use of CORAL-aware strings in their API.

  3. Allow per folder All IOVs loading
The All IOVs checkbox (in the Connection Dialog panel) currently applies to an entire database connection. This is not flexible enough as although it may be useful to only display the most recent IOVs of a particular folder, it is sometimes also useful to be able to view the history of changes to decide the value of new entries. [ACE-00-02-00-beta]

  4. Enable Channel subset selection when loading folders
Very often, only a subset of Channels in a folder is needed at any one time. Although this can also be achieved with filters, Channel subset selection can improve performance of ACE. [ACE-00-02-00]

  5. Create ROOT plots using information in folders
It can be useful to plot trends of how values in particular fields have changed with time.

  6. Creation of new Channels
Channel Ids of cloned rows should be able to be modified. [ACE-00-02-00-beta]

Known bugs: (to be moved into Savannah)
  1. Bug in the handling of UChar both in the folder and in the filter.
    [FIXED in ACE-00-02-00-beta]
  2. There seems to be still some issue with the storing of successful connection histories.
    [FIXED in ACE-00-02-00-beta]
  3. The modified folder indicator (the '*' character is display against the title name of an open folder if the folder was modified) is constantly displayed regardless of the modification state of a folder.
