Title: Measurement of F2cc and F2bb at High Q2 using the H1 Vertex Detector at HERA

Speaker: Dr Paul Thompson (Birmingham)

Abstract

Measurements are presented of the contributions of both charm and beauty quarks to the inclusive proton structure function F2 using data from the electron-proton collider at HERA. The production of heavy quarks is an important process to study perturbative quantum chromodynamics.
The charm and beauty cross sections are determined using a method based on the impact parameter, in the transverse plane, of tracks to the primary vertex, as measured by the H1 vertex detector. The results are an extension to new phase space of previous H1 charm measurements and the first ever measurement of the beauty structure function F2bb.

This Particle Physics Seminar will take place in Seminar Room 2 (room 106), Physics West, at 1315. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served at 1300.
