Abstract
The improved dose dose distributions which are possible with particle therapy
make them an attractive option for the treatment of certain cancers. The UK is
now embarking on a small-scale implementation of particle therapy, and NHS
Trusts are able to bid to host one of a small number of facilities. The clinical
case for particle therapy will be discussed in this talk, and the main elements
of the Birmingham bid will be outlined. Current challenges and future research
potential will be highlighted.
