Liquid Argon Detectors for Neutrino Physics

Gary Barker (Warwick University)

Abstract

Liquid argon detectors make ideal tracking calorimeters giving a spatial event reconstruction comparable to bubble chambers. This technology is currently being developed for a future large-scale (>100 kt) detector with a physics programme that spans neutrino oscillations, particle astrophysics and proton decay. This talk will cover liquid argon technology and the physics case and will review the current state-of-the-art both in the UK and world- wide.
