The H -> τ + τ channel at ATLAS

Kathryn Grimm (Lancaster University)

Abstract

With the full LHC Run 1 dataset the ATLAS experiment was able to see evidence for the Higgs decay to two τ-leptons, the first evidence for fermionic decays of the Higgs boson. Very recent results combining ATLAS and CMS data show the ττ signal at more than 5 sigma confidence level. This talk will review the H to τ+τ discovery analysis. Additionally we will look at the properties of the H to τ+τ channel that make it a unique tool for measuring the Higgs CP quantum state, and for searching for extensions to the Standard Model. Prospects for analyses in this channel during Run 2 and future LHC running will be explored.
