Introduction

John Dowell retires in September 2002 after a long and distinguished career in High Energy Physics. To mark this occasion there was a half-day Symposium at the University of Birmingham, which covered some of the experiments which John has worked on.

The meeting was hosted by the School of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Birmingham, and took place in the Watson Building in Lecture Theatre A.
