Hi all , Can I sound out a thought on CAMs with the FTT? Please correct if I've mis-understood anything! The CAMs can only be used to associate a tag with the pattern , and not to generate the actual 'co-ordinates'. This is because a CAM output is the address of any internal data that matches the input data. Each address is unique, so all output co-ordinates would be unique. To map many different patterns onto the same co-ordinate , which may be the case, the CAM needs to feed its output 'pattern #n' into a small RAM. (This RAM was mentioned in passsing at the meeting but nobody seemed to know what it's function was, until now !) Secondary co-ordinate outputs could be generated in parallel by adding further small RAMs in parallel, (as required for Level 2). I've attached a GIF drawing to show this. (of course this all looks easy at 20MHz ! ) Richard.
